Dealing with Difficult People

A workshop for the Professional Women's Group of Basel

Whether we are trying to manage a surly boss, collaborate with a whining colleague, or negotiate with a disagreeable neighbour, all of us occasionally have to deal with difficult people. And almost all of us are difficult people ourselves sometimes. During this interactive evening program we will explore what we find difficult—what behaviours we have
difficulties dealing with—and how we can respond
appropriately to reduce stress and get better outcomes.

The more we see ourselves as powerless to change the situation, the more frustrated and stuck we feel. And the more we avoid confronting the situation, the worse it gets. Analyzing our own reactions and gaining insight into what
makes others tick help us to discover other approaches and solutions. We cannot change other people but we can change our own attitudes and strategies and achieve amazing results. Developing our skills in communicating effectively and coping with difficult situations leads to greater professional effectiveness and increased well-being.
